How it works: The bank will make a unique 10-15 digit account number for every customer or every transaction. Once someone sends money to that number, the system instantly logs who sent it and how much.
Real example: A private tutor creates a different VA for each student. An online shop makes a new VA for every single order.
A community creates a VA for donations. As soon as the money comes in, you get a notification complete with the sender’s name.

Providers: Almost all major banks have this. BCA has BCA Virtual Account, BRI has BRIVA, Mandiri has e-Money VA, Jenius has VA.
Fee: Usually Rp2,500 – Rp5,000 per transaction. Can be charged to the payer or the seller, depending on the settings.
3. Auto Debit – Never Miss a Bill Payment Again
This is a lifesaver feature for you who often get fined for late payments.
How it works: You give the bank permission to auto-deduct your account every month for bills that repeat.
Coverage: Electricity, water PDAM, internet IndiHome/Biznet, phone, credit card, mortgage/personal loan installments, BPJS contributions, even Netflix and Spotify subscriptions.

Main benefit: You’ll never be late, so you avoid 1-3% monthly late fees. Saves time because you don’t need to input it manually every month.
How to activate: Open Mobile Banking → Go to Bill Payment → Tap Auto Debit → Enter your customer number → Approve.
The bank will auto-deduct on the due date or 1 day before. Just ensure your account balance is sufficient.
4. Pocket / Sub-Account – Create Multiple “Piggy Banks” Without Opening New Accounts
Want to separate money for emergency funds, vacations, and monthly shopping but hate opening multiple accounts? The Pocket feature is the answer.
How it works: You can make multiple “pockets” of money inside your main account. And yep, each pocket gets its own virtual account number.

Real example: Pocket 1 “Emergency Fund” target Rp15 million. Pocket 2 “End of Year Vacation” target Rp5 million.
Pocket 3 “Monthly Shopping” budget Rp3 million. Money you put in a pocket stays safe. It won’t get used when you pay with your debit card or QRIS until you move it back to your main account.
Best banks: Jenius was the pioneer with up to 20 pockets and interest. Blu by BCA Digital offers unlimited pockets with free transfers. Neobank and Digibank also have similar features.
5. QRIS in Banking Apps – Scan and Pay Anywhere
Forget thick wallets and manual transfers. QRIS is now the national standard.
How it works: QRIS is short for Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard, made by Bank Indonesia. All banks and e-wallets must support it. So you can just scan and pay anywhere that has the QRIS logo using your mobile banking app.
